Shadows, Stitches and Many Hands, is a reflection of Rucha’s engagements, interactions, and research interests. Beginning with her five year social-entrepreneurial project of Quilt Culture, and intense interactions with quilters, to her migration through economically stable countries. Having been exposed to a large and varying economic strata, the artist started exploring the notion of ‘labour’ through various perspectives. She reads/ builds through various layers - from the basic cognisance of the skill and toil, its obfuscation within the larger economic setup, notions of authorship of products, and then sensitively looks at the aspects of gender, especially of the collective female labour within traditional practices.
